I was a guest presenter for the Social Media Activism breakout group at the Placer County Democratic Party's Democracy Workshop last week. Hundreds of people showed up, many of whom were on the streets on June 14th, to turn that anger into activism. My message was simple.

1. Start sharing your honest message - video, text, whatever. But times are f*cked up, tell your friends and followers what's going on.

2. If you're going to scroll, scroll with a purpose. Comment and share that post. Encourage others. Go outside and talk to your neighbors about what you learned. Don't fall into the doom scroll.

3. Anyone, no matter how big or small of a following, can make a difference.

And 4. Turn social media activism into real-world activism. Extremists are considering a dangerous decision on a school board? Show up. Your city council is considering a resolution? Show up. That MAC meeting is discussing a hot button issue? Show up!
