A PROGRESSIVE VOICE IN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Daniel Medina, Delegate, Placer County, AD-5

Hi, I'm Daniel

I’m one of your AD-5 Delegates of the California Democratic Party. As a young progressive residing in Assembly District 5, I see the need for promoting candidates and policies that will serve the needs of everyone -  people like you and me.

Together, we can build a California that reflects our shared values. I am dedicated to being a voice to push progress forward.

What are ADEMs?

Each Assembly District elects delegates during the Assembly District Election Meetings (ADEMs), which occur every two years.

Registered Democrats within the district can vote in these elections.

Typically, 14 delegates (7 self-identified as female and 7 non-female) are elected per district.

Responsibilities of a Delegate

  • Voting on Party Issues: Delegates vote on resolutions, endorsements for state and federal candidates, and party platform changes.

  • Electing Party Leadership: Delegates vote to elect officers of the California Democratic Party, such as the chairperson.

  • Endorsing Candidates: They help decide which Democratic candidates the party officially endorses in elections.

  • Representing Their District: Delegates bring forward issues and concerns from their local community to the broader party.

Significance

Delegates serve as a link between grassroots activists and the state party leadership. They ensure local voices are included in shaping the Democratic Party’s policies and strategies.

California's 5th Assembly District is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, encompassing much of Placer and El Dorado Counties. It includes suburban and rural communities such as Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Auburn, El Dorado Hills, and Placerville. The district spans a mix of residential areas, historic towns, and natural landscapes, stretching from the Sacramento Valley up into the foothills, with a focus on vibrant local economies and outdoor recreation.

“Being the 5th largest economy in the world means nothing if that economy is not working for the working class. California needs to lift everyone up, not just those at the top.”
